Rangers' Could Weaponize "The Rempe Button" Post-Trade Deadline According To Greg Wyshynski
ESPN Senior Writer Greg Wyshynski suggests the New York Rangers could utilize New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs as a vehicle to energize the team.
The New York Rangers could bottle up the energy Matt Rempe has brought to the ice over the last three weeks and unleash it in the 2024 post-season.
ESPN Senior Writer Greg Wyshinsky see's this as a possibility if the club does not feel Rempe, just 21-years-old, is not ready for playoff hockey.
"You can totally see a scenario where he gets bumped from the lineup by a veteran player , they are in a playoff series down 3-1 and Laviolette says 'It's Rempe time' and the fans go berserk," he said on the PuckTalkCS Podcast.
With the March 8 trade deadline looming , the electric "Linsanity" like run for the monstrous forward may come to an end of the team opts to galvanize the bottom-six with faster skaters.
"Despite his gawky frame, he's got some skill," Wyshynski added. "He's worked on his skating, worked on his wall play. He's become more cognizant as a forechecker, not just going into the play like a wrecking ball."
In eight games, Rempe has recorded two points (one goal, one assist) to go along with 39 penalty minutes and four exhilarating fights. His first goal was the game winner against the Philadelphia Flyers on Feb. 24.
"There is more to this kid than simply just the fights, and just the hits...With the trade deadline ahead of us, he came up to replace Blake Wheeler in the lineup for the Stadium Series," Wyshynski said.
"I think everyone anticipates the Rangers to make a move and when that happens it's usually the guy playing less than eight minutes a game being out of the lineup."
The Rangers have a unique chess move at their disposal if they find themselves in a losing situation this spring.
