The New York Rangers have moved to 3-0-1 on the season, thanks to beating the Detroit Red Wings, 5-2.
While the Rangers performed well on their own — defensive mistakes, lack of finishes and undisciplined penalties from the Red Wings really allowed the Blueshirts to thrive. Not to mention, Jonathan Quick made 29 saves in his season debut as goaltender.
But with game over, let's take a look at four quick rapid reacts and notes from the game.
1. The Hat Trick
Artemi Panarin in now the first player in New York Rangers franchise history to record multiple points in each of the first four games of a season. Before the Thursday night matchup, he was the fourth player in Rangers history to record multiple points in three straight games to start off a season — with the other players being Chris Kreider (2016-17), Bernie Nicholls (1990-91) and Mke McEwen (1978-79).
Tonight, Panarin recorded his eighth career hat trick and is one of three Rangers' players with three-plus points. Not one to be all about himself on the ice, he also logged an assists across _ total ice time.
2. First NHL goal in a Homecoming Game
Not only did rookIe Victor Mancini log his first NHL career point against the Detroit Red Wings, but it was his career goal.
Mancini previously scored a goal earlier on this regular season on Saturday, Oct. 12 against Utah but it was taken back due to a goaltender interference ruling.
Clearly, that didn't stop him from logging his first point and goal just five days later.
"Being from Michigan, having family and friends here ... words can't describe what this means to me," Mancini said to ESPN reporter Emily Kaplan postgame. "It's obviously very special ... we have a great group of guys in the locker room and to see their reactions after the goal was pretty special."
3. The Third Period No Goal Stretch is Over
Prior to their second game against the Red Wings of the regular-season, the Rangers along with the Winnipeg Jets were the only two NHL teams remaining to not give up a goal in the third period.
Unfortunately, a poor penalty kill allows Ben Chiarot to find J.T Compher at the back post, and the center quickly lifted it over the pads of Jonathan Quick to make it a 5-2 game.
4. What a Night for the Power Play
The power play ranked third in the league last season with four players recording at least 11 goals, including Panarin and Trocheck. It looks just as dangerous this season with Panarin leading the way with three man-advantage goals.
Basically, the power play allowed the Rangers to double their lead.
