During the start of a three-game homestand, the New York Rangers earned all two points against the Ottawa Senators.
The Rangers won the Nov. 1 matchup 2-1, despite being outshot by the Senators — 41-18. Our Blueshirts now hold a 7-2-1 overall record so far this campaign.
But with game over, let's take a look at three quick rapid reacts and notes from the game.
1. Starting Off Hot
Off the wrist shot, alternate captain Artemi Panarin scored the first goal of the game off of an assist from Alexis Lafrenière.
This is Panarin's seventh goal of the season, with him boasting a total of 15 points so far this season because of his additional nine assists.
Also noteworthy — this happened to be the only goal scored until the third period.
2. Igor on Fire Once More
As previously mentioned, the Rangers were outshot 41-18 over Ottawa, but still managed to pull out the win,.
This is in thanks large part to goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who was on fire yet again.
Against the Senators, Shesterkin only allowed one goal out of 41 shots faced. He saved 40 with a save percentage of .976.
The crowd at Madison Square Garden absolutely ate his performance up, chanting "Igor, Igor ..." throughout the rafters.
3. Lafrenière Comes in Clutch
Ottawa actually ended up scoring at the 12:28 mark in the third period, and would have pushed to overtime.
However, in addition to logging the assit in the first period, Lafrenière also scored earlier on in the first period.
His goal was a tip-in, and was assisted by Filip Chytil and right wing Reilly Smith.
Had he not added to the Rangers' lead just 2:56 into the third, the outcome of the game could have turned out very differently at Madison Square Garden.
