Upon looking at that cover image, you would think that the New York Rangers were playing a preseason game with not only one, but two prospects in the frame. The trade deadline is here, and with it comes some situations of players under "roster management", AKA. awaiting on a trade.
That was the case for both Vincent Trocheck and Sam Carrick, resulting in Carrick being moved to Buffalo in a late-night trade. Word is that Trocheck still does not have a suitor, but the Rangers President and General Manager, Chris Drury, is still working toward a deal.
The return for Sam Carrick is Buffalo's 2026 third-round pick and Chicago's 2026 sixth-round pick, per a league source.

Carrick heads to the Sabres.
All while this was happening, the 2025-26 season is still underway, and games need to be played. After not winning a single home game since defeating the St. Louis Blues on November 24, the Blueshirts were able to deliver the greatest sense of false hope to their passionate fans.
Let's talk about it.
Demolishing Toronto, losing draft position
Usually, this Original Six matchup between the Rangers and Toronto is a great match to watch as both teams are amongst the top of the Eastern Conference. But this season is a different story for both franchises. We all know the failures and misfortunes of our favorite team, but Toronto has been reeling as well this year.
That loss of Mitch Marner has really pushed them down a peg or two, and captain Auston Matthews is not handling it very well. Both on the ice and as a leader of the biggest hockey team in the world, No 34 has not been able to get it done.
This was evident in the 6-2 rout by the Rangers on Thursday night. It was a meaningless game for the two teams, and the home team was able to get an elusive win in front of the home crowd, but it also meant that their chances of getting a top-pick was diminshed.
Currently, the Rangers hold the fourth-best odds at grabbing the first-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, but they were at No. 2 prior to the win against the Maple Leafs. This is looking like the situation with Jack Hughes all over again, and this franchise cannot get burned twice.
It was a great win, but was it worth it at this point in the season.
