On August 10, more speculation surrounding who would be named the next captain of the New York Rangers came to the surface.

This is because The New York Post's Larry Brooks released his column on who President and General Manager Chris Drury should name as the next captain. As expected, Brooks' story heavily mentioned J.T. Miller as a result of how much he proved himself after coming via a trade sending center Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini and a 2025 conditional pick to Vancouver back in January.

In fact, Blue Line Station even previously wrote of both how and why Miller deserves to wear the C on his jersey.

After returning back to where his career began, Miller's numbers exclusive to the Rangers for the 2024-25 NHL season were as follows: 32 games played, 13 goals, 22 assists for 35 points with an average of 1.09 points per game, which was up from the 0.88 points per game he registered in Vancouver.

But, Brooks also pointed out something important.

“The captain’s sweater is not just another piece of laundry. It represents the organization’s ethos. The Rangers acquired J.T. Miller to change the team culture," Brooks said in his piece. "The 32-year-old is hard-edged and can be abrasive. That is the identity the Blueshirts should adopt.”

Here's how fans reacted to Brooks's story and the idea of Miller being named the next Blueshirt captain.

Jacob Trouba was the team's last captain, and before him the "C" was worn by Ryan McDonagh, and before him it was Ryan Callahan. All three were hardworking American players who ultimately departed the organization via trade. Miller, another hardworking American player, being next in line certainly makes sense.

Though, it is worth mentioning there is still time left to play. Drury, a previous captain of the Rangers, and new head coach could wait until halfway through the 2025-26 season to name their guy; but odds are it'll be Miller whenever they decide to make that call.
