The New York Rangers had a busy day for themselves on Tuesday. They named J.T. Miller the franchise's 29th captain ever, a matter of months after reacquiring him in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks. But the Rangers weren't done making announcements.

For the first time ever, the Rangers will have advertisement patches on their iconic jerseys. The Rangers announced that they have reached a partnership with GAME 7 — "a multi-platform sports and entertainment brand" co-founded by team legend Mark Messier.

“For me, the Rangers will always be family, and Madison Square Garden will always feel like home,” said Messier, via the team's official press release. “To now see GAME 7—something we built with the same passion and commitment to greatness that defined my years on the ice—become part of the Rangers’ journey is incredibly meaningful. This partnership unites a legendary franchise, the world’s most iconic arena and a brand created to inspire people to rise to their greatest challenges. As the Rangers celebrate 100 years, it’s an honor to play a role in connecting the team’s history with its future and to help bring even more unforgettable experiences to fans who have always been at the heart of this organization.”

Patches on jerseys have become prevalent in the NHL in recent years. But for the Rangers, the patch won't be on the front of the jersey, but rather, on the right shoulder.

The Rangers have had helmet advertisements in recent years, including Chase Bank and the Benjamin Moore paint company.

It only makes sense for the Rangers to want to partner with a franchise legend. Back in 1991, the Rangers acquired Messier from the Edmonton Oilers in a massive trade. In their 1994 Stanley Cup run, Messier famously made a guarantee in the Eastern Conference Finals that the Rangers would force a Game 7 against the New Jersey Devils. In Game 6, the Rangers won 4-2 behind a hat trick from Messier. The Rangers won Game 7 2-1 in double overtime to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Rangers then defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games, with Messier scoring the series winning goal in Game 7, to win their fourth Stanley Cup championship.

In 10 years with the Rangers, Messier scored 250 goals and dished out 441 assists in 698 regular season games. In five playoff trips with the Rangers, Messier recorded 29 goals and 51 assists in 70 games.

The Rangers will debut the new GAME 7 patch in Sunday's preseason opener against the Devils at 1:00 p.m. ET.
