The New York Rangers got some major injury news on Saturday ahead of their tilt against the Utah Mammoth. Captain J.T. Miller has been ruled out and is listed as day-to-day. Per Rangers reporter Mollie Walker, Miller is dealing with a lower-body injury.

Mike Sullivan indicated the injury occurred during the team's most recent loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

It's been evident that Miller has been dealing with something most of this season, what is unknown is if this ailment is something new or just a way to get him time to rest and recover.

Miller scored twice in his last game against the Avalanche. He played for over 20 minutes. He hit the ice for 30 shifts, showing plenty of poise despite the tough loss.

The 32-year-old has played in 22 games this season, scoring six goals and adding six assists for 12 points. The relatively underwhelming numbers could be a sign that he’s been playing through an ailment this season.

There’s no timetable for Miller’s return. In the meantime, Vincent Trocheck will lead the top line with Artemi Panarin and Alexis Lafreniere. The second unit will consist of Mika Zibanejad with Will Cuylle and Jonny Brodzinski, per Peter Baugh.

The Rangers will be looking to get back in the win column without their captain. The Blueshirts are going through a three-game slide. So, Saturday night’s tilt in Utah will be a crucial one for New York.

Rangers' defense also in flux

As Baugh reported, Wil Borgen remains out. The Rangers’ blueliner has been dealing with an upper-body issue. While he remains day-to-day, he hasn’t played since November 18 against the Vegas Golden Knights. As such, the club could be shuffling its defense pairings once again on Saturday.

Per Daily Faceoff, Vladislav Gavrikov and Adam Fox will lead the top pair. Meanwhile, Carson Soucy and Braden Schneider will hold the middle pair. The bottom pair will consist of Matthew Robertson and Scott Morrow.

Jonathan Quick is also expected to get the call for New York. Quick last played on November 16, making 42 saves in a loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The game ended in a brawl after Red Wings player Mason Appleton fired into the empty net after time had expired.

The Ranger backup has been solid this season. In five games, he’s won three and has one shutout to go with a 1.42 GAA and a .951 SV%. Quick will be looking for his 408th career win against the Mammoth.
