The New York Rangers have taken last season's horrific performance from last season, and upped the ante. Through nine periods of hockey under the iconic roof of Madison Square Garden, the Blueshirts faithful have yet to hear their favorite goal song.
That's right, the Rangers have been held goalless in the first three games of the 2025-26 regular season. The most recent shutout loss, a 2-0 shutout from the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, was the worst one of them all. They just broke a record set around the time of The Great Depression.

Blueshirts become the first team since the 1930-31 Montreal Maroons to open the season with three consecutive shutout losses at home.
The Rangers are the first team in NHL history to get shut out in their first three home games of the season, per NHL Stats.

The ‘28 Pirates still have the longest time without a home goal, but different OT rules led to them getting to 187 mins in under three full games. https://t.co/g5ZBLLxWnl
For the rest of the season, the Rangers are going to have to rely on every single forward to score goals. As it stands, this Centennial team has yet to score a goal on home ice in three games. Artemi Panarin is missing in action, Mika Zibanejad is shooting the puck like a madman, but not getting it past the opposing goaltender, and the fourth-line center, in Sam Carrick, is this team's "Connor McDavid" right now.
What is going on with the New York Rangers?
This team is overthinking it. At 5-on-5, on the power play, this team of superstars and unbelievable talent is not playing Rangers hockey. They are generating chances, and deserve a bit of a better fate, but could stand to be a little bit quicker with their action.

Not to mention, goaltender Igor Shesterkin is shining a bright light on the rest of the NHL, as he continues his superb season. He is keeping the Rangers in close games, only allowing three goals in his four starts of the year. That has to be playing in some of their minds, as they know that the blame is on the offense, not the defense or goaltending.
Where do they go from here?
From here, the Rangers will shake off this stink. They will inevitably figure out how to let that goal song echo throughout Madison Square Garden. Head coach Mike Sullivan will rally these guys to get it going at home, and if not him, captain J.T. Miller will whip this team into shape.
The Rangers have a tough schedule ahead of them at home, with the Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks visiting next week. Both have some solid offenses of their own, so Shesterkin is going to have to be perfect once again. But both of those teams have goaltenders who can be scored on, so the Rangers have to figure it out by then.
