Rangers Pass monthly ticket subscription delivers unprecedented lower bowl access

The start of the NHL regular season is almost here, and if you were on the fence about going and seeing the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, a newly announced ticket offer might just be the thing to reel you in completely.

Everything is too expensive these days, you see it at the grocery store, at the pump, and usually when you are buying merch. Tickets are another one of those things that seem to keep going up, look no further to the most recent championship run by the New York Knicks, but the Rangers seem to have found some answer to that.

If the concept seems familiar to you... that's because you've likely already seen it elsewhere.

For $150 a month, $75 per game, you can attend two games a month sitting in the lower bowl of Madison Square Garden. This is a pretty amazing deal, tickets in the 100s level for under $100 isn't something I have seen at face value in quite some time, and it speaks to the state of the Rangers. New York has missed the playoffs two years in a row, and they are coming off a year in which they were terrible on home ice.

While this is a great deal for fans... some season ticket holders feel like they've caught the short end of the (high) stick... full pun intended.

On one hand... I would be pretty upset if I were a season ticket holder that has been supporting the team for many years financially, and more bummed if I had seats in the upper bowl. The offerring of this plan suggest that ticket sales could be light, but I don't blame the Rangers for wanting to have a full building. This offering also essentially undercuts season ticket holders who could try and flip some of their tickets, because who wouldn't pass up lower bowl tickets for less than expected?

I would imagine the Rangers might have to have some "make good" token of appreciation for their current season ticket holders. It could be credit for the team store, credit for food and beverages, or some way of having season ticket holders upgrade their seats when available.

But with all of that aside, this is a pretty attractive offer which makes MSG more accessible to those who otherwise might not have the opportunity to go. It remains to be seen what will happen for those who have been slightly, rightly or wrongly depending on your perception. This is something that will be even more interesting if the team gets off to a slow start... because if even then people are passing up super cheap tickets... that would be bad news for the Rangers and those involved with this new promotion.
