On New Year's Eve it was announced that Adam Fox was not going to the represent Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics, and today the official roster was unveiled which will feature a pair of Blueshirt buddies. The names aren't unexpected, but it is interesting that they made the squad over Fox.
J.T. Miller and Vincent Trocheck named to Team USA Olympic roster
The New York Rangers were expected to have a few players represent them at the Olympics for the various countries, and both Miller and Trocheck were names in the mix that suited up for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Even though Miller is currently out with an injury, he is part of the main roster that will look to contend and win Olympic gold for the first time since 1980.

Miller has been used at center and wing for the Rangers this season, and it is possible that the organization wanted to bring him to Milan for his versatility, physicality, and offensive ability and upside. He's been hampered with various injuries this season, and has a line of 10-12-22 in 35 games while also winning 59.9 percent of his faceoffs, a stat likely of interest to team decision makers.
He is likely to be a bottom-six forward at the games, and the hope is that against some lesser competition he can win his matchups. He's not too far removed from some seasons of over a point per game production, and if Miller is healthy and engaged, Team USA will have a productive forward toward the bottom of their lineup.
Trocheck's role is a little tougher to predict, and if I had to guess, he's someone who will be a 13th or 14th forward as a checking line center who can be used on the penalty kill. He's appeared in 28 games this season and has nine goals, 13 assists, and 22 points.
Trocheck has also won 55.2 percent of his faceoffs this season, and had win rates of 59.3 percent last season, and 58.7 the year before that. Team USA seems to care a lot about those elements of the game, and he can be a bit of a utility option depending on what is expected of him.
Fox's snub now official
With this news comes the formalization of Adam Fox's snub. His spot on the roster was taken by Seth Jones, and Noah Hanifin was the last man in as last bit of depth. Fox's exclusion remains a shock given the season he is having for the Rangers, and that includes a dominant 62.27 GF%, a 57.16 CF%, and a 59.26 xGF% in nearly 527 minutes at 5v5 per Evolving-Hockey. Fox added a goal and an assist in his return, and is up to 28 points in 28 games for the Rangers.
