The New York Rangers are close to finalizing their roster, and they now run the risk of losing a valuable young player in the process. Per Mollie Walker of the New York Post, the Rangers are waiving goalie Dylan Garand, and veteran forward Taylor Raddysh.

Team thinks Garand still has some developing to do and needs to be getting No. 1 goalie reps as a 24yr old. They're accepting the risk of losing him for nothing.
The Rangers on one hand are putting their faith in a veteran, in this case they are trusting Joonas Korpisalo, and on the other hand they are sending a veteran away to give an opportunity to a youngster in either Matt Rempe or Jaroslav Chmelař.
That the Rangers got to this point is interesting, because even if it was for a short while last year, Garand was a bright spot. He stepped into the NHL and looked very competent at a time in which others like Spencer Martin floundered, and the hope is that he clears.

Garand’s AHL numbers during the 2025-26 campaign featured a record of 16-15-2, 2.83 goals against average, and a .896 save percentage. The Wolf Pack were the worst team in the AHL, and that he was able to produce somewhat respectable numbers is a testament to his ability. It is for that reason when evaluating Garand you look at his entire body of work since leaving the CHL.
With the Blueshirts he went 2-0-1 with a 1.62 goals against average, a .948 save percentage, and courtesy of Evolving-Hockey he also had a 4.88 GSAA (goals saved above average) and a 5.38 GSAx (goals saved above expected). This was a very small sample, and one that should have been extended given how poorly Spencer Martin and Jonathan Quick played while Igor Shesterkin was sidelined.
Garand turned 24 in June, and to this point has appeared in 148 AHL games across six seasons, and he's got a career 2.90 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. He is a former CHL goaltender of the year who logged 135 games and posted a 2.34 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.
For those who are not familiar, over the last three years Korpisalo started 101 games and went 46-45-13 while posting a .892 save percentage and a 3.15 goals against average. In that same stretch, Quick started 70 games and went 35-30-6 posting a .899 save percentage and a 2.94 goals against average. Quick turned 40 in January, and Korpisalo turned 32 in April. He is a much younger goalie with starting experience, but there's a reason why he's been more of a backup or rotation goalie in recent years.
Raddysh is a veteran who may also get claimed on waivers
Raddysh is in the final year of his contract, and his cap hit of $1.5 million is easy to absorb by most teams in the league.
Last season he appeared in 68 games for the Rangers and tallied 19 points. Raddysh has skated in 373 games in his career, and has 52 goals and 67 assists for 119 points. He once had a 20-goal and 37-point season with the Blackhawks, and he'd be a perfectly fine bottom-six addition. The Rangers have other young options with more upside and creating an opportunity is a sensible decision.
Matt Rempe has a shelf life in the NHL, and it very much feels like the Rangers are giving him one final chance to show that he's able to be a fourth-line regular. Last year his season was derailed due to an injury after a fight with Ryan Reaves, but he's ready to hit the ground running now.
Chmelař is another energetic forward with upside, and someone who is trusted by Head Coach Mike Sullivan. He is not yet eligible to go through waivers, and the Rangers can freely move him between the Wolf Pack and varsity squad to suit their needs throughout the year.
