The New York Rangers had two forwards unavailable for practice on Monday, and with their status unknown for Tuesday's contest against the Dallas Stars, the front office is one again turning to a top prospect from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Guess who's back, back again? Othmann's back, tell a friend
Upon seeing the news, Poe Dameron's refrain from Rise of Skywalker popped into my head in that... somehow, Othmann returned. Taylor Raddysh missed practice on Monday for personal reasons, and Adam Edstrom has a lower-body injury.
With Edström hurt during practice and Raddysh out for personal reasons, the #NYR need another forward. https://t.co/zOOx0Thg6p

Right now Conor Sheary is penciled in for a return, but that still leaves an additional opening in the bottom six. In the event that Raddysh is good to go, the Rangers still needed someone as a precaution in the event someone were to be sick on Tuesday or injured in warmups.
Enter Othmann in an emergency role of sorts, and he comes back to the Blueshirts having posted a line of one goal and five assists for six points in 15 games as a member of the Hartford Wolf Pack. Othman has a goal an assist over his last five games, and a goal and four assists for five points in his last 10. The numbers are quite what you'd hope for from the 22 year old forward who posted a line of 21-28-49 as a rookie, but them be the breaks.
Othmann once again has a potential golden opportunity in front of him
If Othmann does see NHL action, it will be his 27th game as a pro, and he is still seeking his first career goal. Thus far he's tallied just two assists averaging 9:58 a game while taking just 27 shots on goal. One of the hallmark's of Othmann's game as a prospect was having an NHL ready shot, and he was an accomplished goal scorer in OHL tallying 96 goals in 177 games. The Rangers have yet to see the same desire and eagerness to shoot and score, and that's what has held him back as a prospect.
It has been said before, but Othmann needs to take full advantage of being back with the team. There's no guarantee he will play, but if he somehow does, he needs to take charge and be noticeable. Othmannn needs to prove to Mike Sullivan and the brain trust that he's taken the critiques of his game to heart, and he's working toward being a player who can be counted on.
