Reports Surface Igor Shesterkin going on Injured Reserve

Goaltender Louis Domingue has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack as of Dec. 31, with reports that the Rangers' starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin is going on IR with an upper-body injury in heavy blow ahead of the new year.

Not the news any New York Rangers fan wants to hear going into the new year, Igor Shesterkin (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports.

According to the Rangers PR Department, goaltender Louis Domingue has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack as of Dec. 31 as a result.

Shesterkin started and surrendered four goals on 25 shots in Monday's loss against Florida. He has posted a record of 11-15-1 with one shutout, a 3.10 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 27 appearances this season. The 29-year-old netminder will miss at least the next three games after being placed on the IR list, starting with Thursday's home matchup versus Boston.

The former Vezina Trophy winner has just 11 wins throughout the 2024-25 season.

It is quite likely the injury was sustained in the Rangers' Dec. 30 matchup against the Florida Panthers in what was an eventual 5-3 defeat for the Blueshirts.

The Rangers won the Presidents' Trophy last season but have now tumbled to last in the Metropolitan Division with a 16-19-1 record. Backup Jonathan Quick should now see the bulk of the starts until Shesterkin is healthy, with Domingue potentially getting the nod in one of the Rangers’ upcoming back-to-back games in Washington and Chicago.Β
