The New York Rangers have done a good job strengthening their roster this offseason. While they traded center Vincent Trocheck to the Utah Mammoth, they brought in multiple new players who should boost their group. Among the Rangers' newcomers are Pavel Dorofeyev, Marcus Pettersson, Sean Durzi, Oliver Bjorkstrand, Joe Veleno, and Joonas Korpisalo.
Overall, the Rangers' roster is looking stronger than it was at the end of last season. Although this is the case, it is clear that they need another star in their lineup if they hope to become legitimate contenders.
Due to this, if the Rangers are in the playoff race next season, they would be wise to make a serious push for Dallas Stars superstar winger Jason Robertson.
After being the subject of trade rumors throughout the beginning of this offseason, Robertson agreed to a one-year, $12 million contract to stay with the Stars. While this has slowed down trade rumors surrounding him, they very well could pick up again next season leading up to the 2027 NHL trade deadline if he does not sign a long-term contract extension by then.
If the Stars make Robertson available for trade again, the Rangers would be incredibly wise to make a serious push for him. He would have the potential to be a perfect addition to their core. This is because he is not only superstar talent but also right in his prime at 27 years old. With this, he would be a perfect fit on a team that is focused on both the present and future, assuming trading for him comes with an agreed contract extension.
Where Jason Robertson could fit in the Rangers' lineup if acquired next season
If the Rangers acquired Robertson from the Stars next season, he would give them a much-needed legitimate superstar for their first line. He would be a perfect fit on a line with two skilled forwards like Dorofeyev and Mika Zibanejad.
Robertson would also give the Rangers another big weapon to work with on their power play. There is no question that his high offensive skill makes him a very impactful player on the man advantage. This would certainly come in handy for a Rangers club that is looking to become a top team again.
Robertson's stats from the 2025-26 season show exactly why he would be a major addition to New York's first line and power play if acquired next season. In 82 games last season with Dallas, he posted 45 goals and 96 points. He has also recorded at least 80 points in each of the last four seasons. This included when he set career highs with 46 goals and 109 points in 82 games during the 2022-23 season.
With numbers like these, Robertson would be a game-changing addition to the Rangers' roster if acquired. Because of this, they should keep an eye on his situation with the Stars next season. If the Stars make him available, the Rangers need to make a serious push for him.
