The 2025-26 campaign hasn't been what the Rangers hoped for to say the least, being last in the Eastern Conference and third worst at the time of writing this article, there has been a lot to be pessimistic about this season. But if there is one thing to be looking forward to during this final stretch run of the season, it's New York's new top-line.
After J.T. Miller suffered an upper-body injury to Columbus, Mike Sullivan moved up Alexis Lafrenière up on a line with Gabe Perreault alongside Mika Zibanejad, and has that combination been something special to watch. Since being put together on March 5th vs Toronto, that threesome are scoring 3.35 goals per sixty (GF/60) and generating 2.62 expected goals per sixty (xGF/60), while accounting for seven of the Rangers 15 goals at all situations.
We like that pass, Gabe Perreault 👀

Lafrenière & Perreault Are Taking That Step
A key part of why this line has become so successful is because Alexis Lafrenière and Gabe Perreault have flat out been the Rangers two best forwards since the teams first game back from the Olympic break.
Lafrenière in the first six games post-Olympics leads the team in points at even strength as well as at 5v5, second on the team in goals and third in high danger chances for (HDCF). Lafrenière's expected goal share (xGF%) and xGF/60 are also third in this stretch, only trailing his two linemates.
The eye test also backs the statistics up when you see Lafrenière making more plays with the puck on his stick, it's odd to say but the trade that sent Artemi Panarin to Los Angeles could wind up being the best thing to happen for the former first overall pick.

On the other hand, Gabe Perreault continues to look more comfortable in the NHL during his rookie campaign. Tied-second on the team in goals and fifth in points with five, Perreault has already surpassed his entire point total during the entire month of January. To add, Perreault is both second in his xGF% and xGF/60.
It feels quite rare in the land of the New York Rangers for two young players to be as productive as they have been during a stretch, but for now Alexis Lafrenière and Gabe Perreault are running away with the opportunity that has been presented to themselves, and as a fan that only can bring some much needed optimism.

Mika Zibanejad Continues His Great Comeback Season
Something you may have noticed is that despite being Perreault and Lafrenière being in the top-3 among Rangers in different statistical categories they both trail one player in each, that being Mika Zibanejad. Since the Olympic break, Zibanejad is first in his xGF%, xGF, points in all situations, goals in all situations, 5v5 goals, and fourth in 5v5 points.

Mika has taken his game into an elite level and looks to be playing with that swagger he used to play with during his career seasons from 2019-2023, if he continues playing like this not only this year but in the future, it's not gonna be long before he breaks the Rangers all-time goal leader currently held by Rod Gilbert.
But for now, this new Rangers trio looks to stay hot and finish this final stretch giving the fans finally something to look forward to in what has been a rough past two-seasons for the franchise.
