After defeating the Detroit Red Wings at Madison Square Garden 4-1 on Monday night, the New York Rangers return to the ice tonight against the same squad. This time, the two will meet at Little Caesars Arena for the second part of their home-and-home.
Here's three players to watch for the Blueshirts tonight.
1. Kaapo Kakko
The Rangers' third line of Kaapo Kakko, Filip Chytil and Will Cuylle has been arguably New York's best through three games, generating chances and provdiing offense from the bottom six.
A lot of this is because of Kakko, who has had a ton of Grade A chances but also has been setting up his linemates. So far, Kakko only has one point this season, but if this line continues to play together, his point total will surely increase.
Look for Kakko to have a big game tonight.
2. Adam Fox
Fox - New York's best defensemen and one of the top defensemen in the NHL - has two zero point outings so far this season. Still, he is averaging a point per game after tallying three against Utah Hockey Club.
This is extremely uncharacteristic for Fox, who has been nearly a point per game player his entire NHL career. Should we be worried? No, absolutely not.
Fox will be fine and is still one of the best blue liners in the league. He'll be key for the Rangers tonight.
3. Jonathan Quick
Quick was the first goalie off the ice in New York's morning skate, meaning that he will get his first start of the season tonight. Quick was 18-6-2 in his first year with the Rangers, leading to New York extending him last year to bring him back.
The 38-year-old was one of the best backup goaltenders in the league last season and can hopefully remain the same this year.
