Overall
Does Chris Drury deserve to get the boot? We've been through almost everything he's done for the Rangers, and the recent struggles cannot be pinned on Laviolette. After last year, the only significant difference we have now is that Chris Drury is willing to move core pieces and staples of the New York Rangers to freshen up the room. That's disruptive and entirely his own doing.
Could you make the argument that Drury deserves a little more time based on his record with the organization? Sure, but the struggles this team is enduring have been inflicted by the one who assembled them. The leadership of this iconic franchise needs to start from the top down, and if the general manager is looking to trade the captain and longest-tenured Rangers, you get situations like this where the team is abysmal.
You have to call time on this experiment eventually, and for James Dolan, the wealthy owner of the New York Rangers, that time could be soon. We all know Dolan loves to meddle in team affairs, which might have plagued Drury during his time with the Blueshirts, but eventually, Drury has to be held accountable for his failures. Maybe only in the summer, then look for a fresh start for the off-season.
