The New York Rangers future is filled with more question marks than is comfortable to admit. There is no direct plan or any sense of direction for this team.Â
With that said, a number of players could be on the move this summer, or at the very least at some point next season. Here are two of the more obvious, but intriguing ones, that have a direct impact on the season ahead.Â
Braden SchneiderÂ
Braden Schneider is one of those players that is a big question mark for next season. He is not under contract at the moment, and his next deal is likely going to be a bridge. But should the Rangers even try to see if he is worth the long-term investment.Â
Of course, but it is going to come with some heavy expectations. Schneider stepped up to the plate when Adam Fox went to the IR, but it was not a perfect performance. The bad outweighed the good, and it is clear that he is not ready.Â
Schneider could see himself without a deal with the Rangers for next season. He could be a good fit elsewhere, and Rangers President and General Manager is going to be kicking himself if they lose him for free.
Matt Rempe
The next player that might not be back for the Rangers is a bit of a difficult one for Rangers fans to hear. Matt Rempe is no longer as effective as he once was, and he may be released this summer.Â
With one year left on his deal, he may not even see another game in a Blueshirts uniform. Rempe's thumb is a real nuisance for a player that has to use his hands more than most hockey players.
Rempe's survival past the trade deadline is a curious one, especially with how rough and physical these playoffs have been. Surely one of these teams like Colorado or even Minnesota would have bid on No. 73 for a cheap price.
