A couple more important things still need to happen before the end of the New York Rangers 2024-25 season. One more game needs to be played against the Tampa Bay Lightning, legendary broadcaster Sam Rosen’s final call after 40 years of service, and a few more milestones for these players.
One of those players who hit a major milestone is Vincent Trocheck. Monday’s 5-3 victory over the Florida Panthers was his 800th NHL game.
What kind of impact does he make for this team, and how has his career been worthwhile?
Major milestone
In 800 career games, Trocheck has 222 goals and 355 assists for 577 points. He is in 804th place on the most games played in NHL history.
He has appeared on three teams in his career: the Florida Panthers, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Rangers. His three-year stint with the Rangers should be considered as a success, as he has been part of a great duo with Artemi Panarin.
Impact on the ice
On the ice, Trocheck had a down season in 2024-25. You can probably say that about the entirety of this team. He's appeared in all 81 games played this season and scored 25 goals and added 33 assists for 58 points. He joins a long list of Rangers who suffered significantly lower point totals this season. All in all, this team failed itself and its fans this season.
The 31-year-old centerman is under contract through the 2027-28 season at $5.625 million. One of the main topics of conversation this upcoming offseason will be about leadership and who could step into that role, and Trocheck could definitely slot in there. He is very vocal on the ice, in the locker room, and with the media. All three areas that the Rangers need improvement on.
Trocheck is an integral part of this team and should be for years to come. If you want to talk about which Rangers are safe and are off the board if a complete overhaul happens this offseason, he would be one of the safer ones.
