Tuesday night saw an important matchup for the New York Rangers as the Ottawa Senators came to town for an Eastern Conference showdown. Going into the game, the Rangers sat four points behind the Senators for a wild card spot in the east.

The Blueshirts have shown immense improvement since the new year began, earning a record of 7-1-3 since the onset of 2025. Although Rangers fans are certainly happy with the refreshingly high earned points percentage, there's still been some anxiety amongst the fanbase regarding how close a lot of the matchups have been. In their last eight games, the Rangers have gone to overtime five times, often surrendering leads late and falling short in the extra frame.

Heading into Tuesday night, the Rangers were looking for a convincing win to help make up ground in the wild card race, as well as contribute to their positive momentum moving forward. A convincing win is exactly what the Rangers got.

The Blueshirts registered goals in all three periods of the game, with 13 different Rangers players getting on the scoresheet. New York found goals up and down the lineup, getting offensive contributions from stars like Artemi Panarin, as well as new faces like Arthur Kaliyev. Enforcer Matt Rempe also got in on the action, scoring his first goal of the season in the third period to extend the Blueshirts' lead to 3-0.

It wasn't just the Rangers offense that shined, though, as the Blueshirts defense allowed just 20 shots against and goaltender Igor Shesterkin picked up his second consecutive shutout. Shesterkin has now played over 160 minutes without allowed a goal against, dating back to the Rangers game against Utah on Jan. 16.

The last time the Rangers scored four goals or more while allowing zero goals against was all the way back in their Nov. 9 matchup with the Detroit Red Wings, when goaltender Jonathan Quick made 37 saves in a shutout win. After that victory, the Rangers sat 9-3-1 on the season, completely unaware of the collapse that awaited them and have since appeared to have turned a corner as of late.

There's a lot of season left to play for the Blueshirts, but given their recent positive run of form, and their earning of their most convincing win in two months, no one can blame Rangers fans for having a little bit of hope igniting in their hearts.
