The New York Rangers captivated Blueshirt fans with their first win a four-game losing streak, and then got right back in the losing column with a 7-4 loss in Washington.
Though, the win over the Bruins was not totally pointless as the Rangers are now not in sole possession of last place in the Metropolitan Division. They are currently tied for last with fellow city-foe the New York Islanders (35 points).
The Rangers currently have an overall record of 17-20-1 compared to Chicago's 13-24-2. Though, the Blackhawks are coming off a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
A win is quite attainable for the Rangers, but in order to do so they'll have to shut down superstar player Connor Bedard, who is on his way to making franchise history.
Let's breakdown what Bedard can bring to the ice during the Sunday matinee Original Six matchup.
Connor Bedard
Bedard — only 19-years-old — is the team-leader for Chicago. He currently has 34 points across 10 goals and 24 assists for the 2024-25 season. Bedard is also on a career-high six game point streak.
Well on his way to making history, with his assist on Tyler Bertuzzi's goal on Friday night against the Montreal Canadiens — Bedard collected his 95th career point.
That passed Patrick Kane for sole possession of the second most points by a teenager in Blackhawks history. Bedard now needs 34 more points this season to tie Ed Olczyk (129 points) for first place and 35 to surpass him.
With the Canada native not turning 20 until July 17th, this is very doable for him.
Not to mention he was also the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2024.
