Last game the New York Rangers extended their point streak to 10 games with a 5-0 win over Ottawa, and now its time for 11.
On Sunday, Jan. 26th, the Rangers take on the Colorado Avalanche (28-20-2) at Madison Square Garden in the matinee. Colorado serves as a worthy opponent for the Rangers, as the Avalanche (28-20-2) has four more regulation wins than the Blueshirts.
Not only that, but the current NHL point-leader is active on Colorado's roster. Nathan MacKinnon is the team-leader for Colorado in addition to the entire league with 75. Here's what he could bring to the MSG ice.
Nathan MacKinnon
MacKinnon has four goals and three assists during his current five-game point streak. The tally was his 19th of the season and opened the scoring in the second period. The 29-year-old center leads the NHL with 75 points and has added 189 shots on net, 43 blocked shots, 27 PIM and a plus-17 rating through 49 appearances this season.
Most recently, he scored a goal on seven shots in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Jets.
In fantasy hockey, he holds the No. 1 position rank for the center position. MacKinnon has played his entire career in Colorado so far, being taken by the Avalanche with the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
Additionally, MacKinnon enjoyed an equally successful postseason early on in his career. His three assists in Game 1 of Colorado's first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Minnesota Wild made him the first rookie to have three points in his postseason debut.
Last season, MacKinnon put together a 35-game home point streak (77 points; 29 goals, 48 assists), the second-longest in NHL history behind Wayne Gretzky's 40 with the Los Angeles Kings in 1988-89. He finished second in the NHL with 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists) in 82 games and won the Hart Trophy voted as NHL most valuable player for the first time and the Ted Lindsay Award that goes to the most outstanding player as voted by the NHL Players’ Association.
