It is time to turn the tide.
The New York Rangers have won only one of their last seven games, Let that sink in — one win in the last seven. Clearly the Rangers are hungry for a win, and as they should be, Lucky for them, the chance for that win comes sooner rather than later.
On Friday, Dec. 6, the New York Rangers (13-10-1) will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins (11-12-4) in a Metropolitan Division matchup at Madison Square Garden.
Records aside, NHL superstar Sidney Crosby is easily the Penguins' player to watch for Pittsburg's franchise. Let's break down his play style and see how he could impact the Blueshirts on ice.
Sidney Crosby
Captain and league veteran Sidney Crosby currently leads the Penguins in points for the 2024-25 campaign so far.
He currently sits with 26 points across eight goals and 18 assists, all while playing in all 27 games thus far.
He continues to rack up points, getting on the scoresheet in seven of the last eight contests. Within that span, he has two goals and six assists while also adding 25 shots on net despite being held without a shot three times.
The superstar center is hovering just shy of a point-per-game pace with eight goals, 16 assists, 75 shots on net, 26 hits and a minus-7 rating across 25 appearances this season.
As most NHL fans are aware, Pittsburgh won the NHL Draft Lottery and happily selected Crosby during 2005-6. Even back then, he showed that he could produce offense at the NHL level by finishing his rookie season with 102 points. In his very next year (2006-07), Crosby helped the Penguins advance to the Stanley Cup Playoffs by leading the NHL in scoring with 120 points (36 goals, 84 assists), winning both the Art Ross and Hart Trophies.
Even more impressive — Crosby recently reached 600 goals in the NHL on Nov. 23, 2024. He reached the milestone at 3:11 of the second period during a 5-on-3 power play to become the 21st player in league history to reach the mark.
Clearly, he is a big threat to the Blueshirts should they hope to get back in the win column on a consistent basis.
Whether the Rangers can contain Crosby is a key in to them not only getting the victory, but to hopefully turning their season around.
