To say the New York Rangers need a win against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday evenings would be a massive understatement.
The Rangers (12-6-1) are coming off two losses in a row — the first at Calgary and the second at the Carolina Hurricanes. Bouncing back against St. Louis (9-12-1) is certainly within reach for the Bluershirts, especially after some interesting developments that have taken place recently.
Rumors are swirling that Rangers long-time veteran Chris Kreider and captain Jacob Trouba are on the trade block, as according to Elliotte Friedman.
6'9" Matt Rempe has also been called up from the Hartford Wolf Pack, in addition to Brett Berard who is set to make his NHL debut tonight against the Blues.
This game is also significant in that it marks the Rangers return to Madison Square Garden after four-straight away games in the Pacific Northwest and Canada.
But with all of this in mind, who could cause the Rangers the most problems on the ice from St. Louis's roster?
Jordan Kyrou
Their offensive leader so far this 2024-25 campaign, the right-shot winger sits with 18 points earned so far. Six of these are goal, with the remaining 12 being assists.
Kyrou signed an eight-year, $65 million contract with the Blues on Sept. 13, 2022 that begins in the 2023-24 season.
This came after his season when at 23-years-old, he set NHL career-highs in goals (27), assists (48) and points (75), and tying for third on St. Louis with 19 power-play points. Kyrou had nine points, including seven goals (tied for second on the Blues) in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help St. Louis advance to the Western Conference Second round, a six-game loss to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.
The Canada native was selected in the second round (No. 35) of the 2016 NHL Draft after his second season with Sarnia of the Ontario Hockey League.
He played in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game and recently scored his sixth goal of the season Thursday in a 3-2 shootout win over San Jose.
