The New York Rangers most recently defeated the Boston Bruins on Jan. 2, in what was the Blueshirts first game of 2025. The win for the Rangers truly could not have come at a better time. Prior to the Thursday night win, the Blueshirts had sole possession of last place in the Metropolitan Division.
The well-earned 2-1 win put the Rangers at 35 points, now tied for last place with fellow city-foe the New York Islanders. But now, the Rangers must be ready to turn the page.
Should they wish to continue winning, the Blueshirts need to defeat the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Going into the matinee matchup, Washington currently boasts a 25-10-3 record. This puts them at first place in the Metro Division.
Although its a steep hill for the Rangers (17-19-1) to climb, its certainly possible. But in order for them to do so, they'll have to control Dylan Strome. Strome is obviously the opposing team's player to watch ahead of the Jan. 4 matchup.
Dylan Strome
Strome is the Capitals' leading scorer, with 41 points on the 2024-25 year so far. This is combined across 38 games played with 11 goals and 30 assists (+14).
The 27-year-old was signed as a free agent by Washington on July 14, 2022. He has since signed five-year contract with Washington, February 3, 2023 with an annual value of $5 million.
Strome is nine points ahead of the next leading scorer for Washington. The Canadian professional ice hockey player is center for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League. He stands at 6'3" and most recently played his 200th game with the franchise.
