Who was the Rangers' MVP Against the Montreal Canadiens?
Despite 12 different players logging points in the Rangers contest against the Canadiens on Tuesday night, there was one player who topped the statsheet — easing earning MVP of the night.
In a 7-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers have officially scored the most points they have in a game all season.
With a season-breaking 12 players logging points, this Oct. 23 matchup has made it a bit more difficult than usual for Blue Line Station to name a MVP of the game.
But, it has to be done.
Filip Chytil
Center Filip Chytil tallied the most on the statsheet of both teams during the game. Chytil logged two goals, one assists and had four shots on goal at Centre Bell, easily earning MVP of the night.
Chytil got behind Montreal defenseman Justin Barron on a power-play, making it 4-0 for the visitors at 11:05 of the opening period and ending goaltender Sam Montembeault's night. He was placed by Cayden Primeau after the goal.
In the final minutes of the third period, Chytil also chipped a shot off the post to make it 6-2.
Teammate Kaapo Kakko scored less than a minute later for the final goal of the night.
The Czechia native's assist came from Braden Schneider's goal, in which Chytil delivered a neat cross-ice pass.
So far this season, Chytil currently sits with five points across six games played. This comes from his three goals and two assists during the 2024-25 campaign so far.
These seven goals scored by the Rangers were the most they scored in Montreal since a 7-3 win on Feb. 22, 1972.
Furthermore, according to the Rangers' PR Department — with a 5-0-1 record, the Rangers have set the franchise record for the longest point streak to begin a season. The Blueshirts have also tied the team record (4 GP - 1931-32) for the longest road winning streak to start a campaign.
The Blueshirts’ 31 goals are the most for an NHL team through their first six games since the NJ Devils and LA Kings in 1993-94.
After winning the 2017 Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award as the top rookie in training camp, Chytil made the Rangers' opening-night roster against the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 5, 2017 and played two games before getting some American Hockey League experience under his belt while in Hartford with the Wolf Pac
Chytil agreed to a four-year, $17.75 million contract with the New York Rangers on March 29, 2023. He was the No. 21 pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.
