Igor Shesterkin and Johnathan Quick are crowd favorites. There isn’t one time at MSG or at an away game that Blueshirt fans don’t chant their name. Their name echoes in the arena because they make saves for their team worthy of chants. Both players are highly qualified in their positions and have made incredible saves to keep the game active.
Shesterkin has been one of the veteran players for the Rangers. He has only been on the team since 2020. The Rangers are his only home. Quick, on the other hand, has now been with three teams in his career: the Los Angeles Kings, the Vegas Golden Knights, and last of all, the New York Rangers. Quick brings a different type of fan to the Rangers’ team. Most of his fans are from his extended time at the Kings. These fans are so devoted to him as a goalie, regardless of what jersey he wears. This means more eyes are on the Rangers since Quick joined in 2023. There are also those who like Quick for being someone who grew up watching the team and idolizing franchise legend Mike Richter.
The chant “I-gor” made by the fans is made with Shesterkin’s stats. For his background, he is a 29-year-old from Russia. Shesterkin was drafted in 2014 in the fourth round by the Rangers. Ever since being a Ranger, he has come out on top with his rewards. He won the Vezina Trophy for the 2021-22 season, and was a finalist for the Hart Trophy (league MVP). Shesterkin was also a regular NHL All-Star player in 2022 to 2024.

In 2024, Shesterkin was ranked as the top goaltender in the NHL. His stats consist of 27 wins in the 2024-25 season with six shutouts and a GAA of 2.86. His career wins are 162 with 21 shut-outs and a GAA of 2.52.
Quick’s career is next-level impressive. He is a 39-year-old from Connecticut. He was drafted back in 2005. Before Quick joined the Rangers, Quick was a three-time Stanley Cup winner with wins in 2011-12, 2013-14, and 2022-23. He also won the Corn Smythe trophy in the 2011-12 season. Another trophy was acquired in 2013-14 and 2017-18, and that was the William M. Jennings trophy. Just like Shesterkin, Quick has also made an appearance during the NHL All-Star games in 2012 and 2016.
Quick’s most recent season stats consist of 11 wins in 24 games for the 2024-25 season, with three shut-outs and with GAA of 3.17. In his career, he has 404 wins over 804 games with 63 shutouts with a GAA of 2.49. Quick was also recently ranked by one writer as fourth-best among NHL backup goalies.

The Rangers have winners in their net. These two goalies could help the Rangers get their name back out there. They are an Original Six team after all. With more impressive saves by Shesterkin and Quick, the Blueshirts could see something big for them in the future. Possibly a trophy? It will be exciting to see the duo back on the ice for the next season and hearing the fans chant as they hype up their beloved goalies.
