The preseason is around the corner for the New York Rangers. Several players will be under the spotlight and need a strong showing to prove they can contend.

The 2017-18 New York Rangers roster is about to begin taking shape. Following a second round exit in last year’s playoffs, the team will be eager to make another run at the ever elusive Stanley Cup.

In the upcoming preseason schedule, the team’s coaching staff will get a look at every player competing for a roster spot.

Among the decisions that must be made is the defense’s final pairing. A blend of veterans hanging around and youngsters waiting in the wings has created a preseason competition everyone is eager to see play out.

Young players will take on increased roles, regardless of whether they are ready or not. In today’s NHL teams must grow on the fly, and the Rangers are no different.
