Anthony DeAngelo

The headlining piece of the Derek Stepan trade will have plenty of attention his way this season. Anthony DeAngelo is a right-handed, offensive minded defenseman. At 21 years old, he will be one of the youngest players on the Rangers roster.

The bar will be set high for the newly acquired defenseman, and rightfully so. Despite his unquestionable potential with the puck on his stick, DeAngelo has had a turbulent career at the NHL level thus far.

The New Jersey native was drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft and has changed teams twice already. Last season, he made his NHL debut in 39 games with the Arizona Coyotes. The results were promising, as he went on to register five goals and nine assists, including eight power play points.

His calling card to success on this Rangers team will be to grow into an elite power play quarterback for years to come. However, If DeAngelo intends to gain the trust of Alain Vigneault he must improve in his own end. An improvement from last years 37 PIM in 39 games would be necessary as well.
