Marc Staal: Golfing For Charity, Staal Foundation Open

Marc Staal‘s future with the Rangers is an ongoing topic of conversation among fans. His contract ends next year and he was hoping to have signed an extension by now. The defenseman has been riddled with injuries I feel, may be contributing to the delay. While we wait to see if he makes it on the roster next year, I want to highlight him in a different aspect.

Marc Staal spent a week this summer golfing for charity through his family’s foundation. He and his brothers created the Staal Family Foundation. The foundation is structured with a strong focus on family, community and charity. Their mission is to provide support to children and families battling cancer.

“A family foundation motivated by the desire to give back to communities where we live and work, by providing support and opportunities for children and families fighting cancer.” – The Staal Family Foundation

When Marc Staal and his brothers learned PGA Tour Canada was coming to Thunder Bay, they immediately wanted to be involved. They saw an opportunity for their hometown to benefit and help the community.

“When we heard PGA Tour Canada was coming to Thunder Bay we jumped at the chance to attach our name to the event,” said Eric Staal “It’s going to be a really exciting week of sport and entertainment and we think the Staal Family Foundation is a great fit. We love our hometown, and just like PGA Tour Canada, we’re passionate about family, charity and our community.” – Staal Family Foundation

The Staal Family Foundation partnered with the Staal Foundation Open to support the community of Thunder Bay.

The Staal Foundation Open was added to PGA Tour Canada as the titled sponsor in 2014. PGA Tour Canada is a professional golf tour that travels coast-to-coast each summer. The purpose is to showcase star players at the game’s highest level. This event will be used as a fundraiser for local charities. The Staal Foundation was committed to keeping all of the profits in Thunder Bay.

Marc Staal and his brothers golf tournament is expected to help the following three charitable organizations.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation raises funds to support programs that improve patient care. They proudly state that the money they raise stays in Northwestern Ontario.

The United Way of Thunder Bay is committed to improving the quality of life for all local people. Their area of focus is on poverty, children and the community. Funds donated from the Staal Foundation Open will be invested across Thunder Bay.

St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay is a Catholic healthcare organization dedicated to meeting the needs of people in the community. They provide services to people struggling with various levels of need.

All three of these organizations are vital in helping their local community and will benefit greatly from this event .

I think it’s great how Marc Staal and his brothers have pulled together as a family to give back to the their hometown. His involvement in such worthy causes gives us insight into his caring heart.

Marc Staal is a natural leader who often gets overlooked because of his calm demeanor. He is a solid, level-headed player who knows his job on the ice. I can only hope the Rangers are holding off on a contract to be sure he is healthy. He has been a loyal alternate captain and I feel he will come back this fall ready to play.
