Despite all of the rumors that had Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers out for his entire career, in reality he is actually alive and doing well.

When Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers was injured in Game 5 of the 1st round of the playoffs vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins, after taking a puck to the side of the head off of a shot by Rangers’ teammate and captain Ryan McDonagh, every Rangers’ fan collectively held their breath.

When the team announced that Zuccarello would not return in Game 5, every Rangers’ fan collectively began to worry.  Then afterwards, when the Rangers announced that Zuccarello has been ruled out “indefinitely,” those collective worries from the Rangers’ faithful quickly turned into a collective panic.

And with panic comes a lot of crazy rumors.

According to various “sources” on social media, claiming to know Zuccarello’s friend’s cousin’s doctor, and other things of that nature, Zuccarello’s career was over because of a concussion mixed with internal bleeding in his brain, a fractured skull, loss of all motor skills, absolutely no ability to speak anymore, a coma, and plenty others just as gruesome or even worse.

Well, Zuccarello was in attendance up in the press boxes of Madison Square Garden for Game 5 of the 2nd round of the playoffs between the Rangers and the
Washington Capitals, and upon announcement was greeted by a large standing ovation from both the fans and his teammates.

It has also been reported that Zuccarello is doing light workouts as well, and is still not being ruled out for the playoffs.  So if all of those rumors were true, or even just one of them, how Zuccarello would be able to attend a game, do light workouts, and get closer to making a return are simply amazing. Quite a tremendous feat if you ask me.

So obviously those rumors were created out of sheer panic within the Rangers’ fanbase and luckily for Zuccarello, the Rangers’ organization, and we the fans, none of those rumors were true.

All in all, it is fantastic news that Zuccarello seems to be progressing and getting closer to returning, however, the Rangers’ last game of the season may very well be later tonight in Washington on Mother’s Day.  With the Rangers trailing the series 3-2 going into Game 6 tonight, a Capitals’ victory would eliminate the Rangers from playoff contention, thus officially ending both Zuccarello and the Rangers’ season.

But, whether the season ends tonight for the Rangers and Zuccarello or not, it is good to hear that Zuccarello’s injury, whatever exactly it may be, should not be anything close to career ending.
