Welcome to this week’s edition of the Weekly Wrap Up. As of today, there are 30 days left till New York Rangers hockey returns on October 7th.
Here are some articles you may have missed last week:
Covering the King- Jess and Jay
To get things off, we thought we’d touch on the Rangers last line of defense. We wrote two articles about Henrik Lundqvist, both pertaining to the start of the 2015-2016 hockey season.
Henrik Lundqvist in NHL 16’s Top Goalies
In Jess’ article, she talks about the King’s goalie rating in the upcoming NHL 16 video game. He, along with Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick, had their ratings in the game remain the same as last year’s version. However, the Vezina Trophy winner, Montreal Canadiens backstop Carey Price, saw his increased and become the best rated goalie in this year’s version. Was it fair? Ehhh, that is debatable, but it’s good to know Lundqvist is still considered one of the best at his position.
Determined to Win
We switch gears to the real-life game of hockey. Jay offers his opinion about the King’s vote of confidence in this year’s team. It seems year in and year out, the team has been constantly changing, and the challenge is living up tot he expectations set by the previous season’s roster. However, Jay highlights Lundqvist’s belief that this year’s roster is capable of much more, especially with the Rangers core of players still in tact (i.e. Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan).
Looking forward to the New Season- Jay, Connor, Brandon
Rangers Prospects Roster Unveiled For Traverse City
Last week, the Rangers unveiled their list of invitees to the Prospects Tournament held in Traverse City, Michigan. Players in the team’s pipeline are expected to show what they can do, starting this week. The three-day event will start on Friday, and will showcase from the Rangers Brady Skjei, Brandon Halverson, and this year’s second-round pick Ryan Gropp.
Who Will Light the Lamp First
Connor brings up an interesting question for this season. It’s always a fun topic to toss around the water-cooler at work, among friends at school, or debate it to yourself (though we encourage you to talk aloud wherever you are, don’t keep your excitement bottled up). His money is on Kevin Hayes, with four other possible players making run at the title. Who is your pick?
Who Should Be The Seventh Defenseman?
Brandon begs the question of the most questionable spot on the Rangers defense. With the loss of Matt Hunwick in the offseason, his shoes will need to be filled from within. He did an admirable job as the depth defenseman, and his play on the ice will be missed. However, Brandon brings up candidates that will have a say for that spot.
Rangers Milestones within Reach
In our last article for the upcoming season, Jay provides a couple of milestones that could be attainable this year for a couple of Rangers players. Sometimes, as fans, we get so caught up on focusing on the grand prize, that we overlook the present and immediate future. That’s where Jay came in and grounded us a little bit. However, not only was his focus on the Rangers, but he shared other milestones that are attainable this season in the NHL.
Who said you can never go back Home?- Jen
Rangers Name Drury Director of Player Development
Jen wrote about a former Ranger captain, who will be rejoining the organization this upcoming season. No, not that “Captain”. But the recently named inductee to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, Chris Drury, will be coming on board and will be responsible for overseeing the development of the Rangers future in Hartford. We have to admit, it will be a welcome sight to see him around Madison Square Garden again. He gave everything he had on the ice, and helped pave the way for past, present, and future captains.
Flashback Friday with Stepan and the ever important question: what player jersey should I get?- Jess
Derek Stepan’s Top Goals of 2014-15
As we continue with our Flashback Friday series last week, Jess took us on a ride down memory lane with Derek Stepan. The home-grown Ranger has been “setting up” others in the past, but this time it was us who “set him up”. We highlighted his biggest goals from last season, reliving those fun and electrifying moments.
Jersey Guide 2015 – Part Two
Jess continues her two-part jersey guide for this upcoming season. Maybe, the name on the front of your beloved Rangers jersey is not enough. You feel the need to go above and beyond, in supporting your favorite player. If you are in the market to buy one and faced the difficult decision of choosing which player to put on your back when representing the team, she offers her best fashion tips on making the “stressful” decision.
Upcoming NHL 16 video game still missing arena customizations- Pat
Customization in NHL 16, Lacking
To close out last week’s, Pat offers his take on the upcoming NHL 16 experience, specifically arena customizations. He touches on two improvements the game should include: adding your own arena music and having the “whistle” chant. However, Electronic Arts did make an improvement by adding in the “goal song” at MSG. That might be just enough to prompt Rangers fans to buy the new game. We think Pat is already camping out for the midnight release!
Whoosh, and just like that, we come to the end. Hope this helps you fans catch up, and we look forward to your continued readership, as we come down the homestretch before Rangers hockey returns.
Talk to you all soon!
