The Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist will compete in the 2016 World Cup. As a part of Team Sweden, no doubt, Hank will have a chance to help his home country on the ice once again.

In the Sochi Olympics, Sweden was shut out during the gold medal game, falling 3-0 to Team Canada. Nevertheless, Lundqvist and his team received silver medals at the podium.

Now with the World Cup coming up, there’s a legitimate chance for Sweden to take home the title.

It’s going to be a very busy year for Lundqvist. On top of winning the World Cup, he is also hopeful for the New York Rangers to make it farther in the Stanley Cup Playoffs than before.

In his interview, Hank talked about the window of opportunity and how he believes it’s more open now than ever before:  “For a few years it was definitely a goal [to win the Stanley Cup], but it was a long stretch for us to really reach to that level. Now I feel we have the group to fight for it and to be there.“

Hopefully Lundqvist will be able to head into the World Cup with the confidence of a Stanley Cup championship finally under his belt.

Ryan McDonagh, the Tennis Player? – NHL.com

Since he was a wee lad, Ryan McDonagh liked to play all kinds of sports – hockey, football, baseball. And lately, the Rangers Captain has gotten into tennis.

At the U.S. Open, he talked about the importance of playing more than one sport as a kid, saying, “The area that often goes unnoticed is the socialization aspect. Going into spring meant I got to hang out with my baseball friends or football friends again, and it brought out a new sense of life and energy.” McDonagh also praised tennis as a great way to workout. But there’s even more to it than that.

Like switching up an exercise routine, learning a new sport helps to further develop one’s skills and strengths. By learning tennis, McDonagh is refining his hand-eye coordination, improving his reaction time and building upon the explosive strength in his legs – all very important aspects needed in hockey.

And perhaps we’ll see just what he learned on the tennis courts translate over onto the ice this season.
