All the latest news, rumors, rumblings and notes that surround the New York Rangers all in one place!

  • If you were a lucky one like me and didn’t get to see the New York Rangers get destroyed by the Canadiens on Saturday night, pat yourself on the back. The Rangers played a horrible game by all accounts and made it clear that the first Wild Card position might not be the best thing for them going forward.
  • Kevin Delury of the New York Rangers’ Blog broke down the game in a way that made reading about the game after the fact bearable. He was right about one thing, the Rangers keep getting their chances (in this game and in others) and have not been able to finish. This is the biggest difference between the team now and back in the early days of the season and it’s killing them.
  • Larry Brooks of the New York Post wrote about how the Rangers are facing a crisis. The Rangers are facing a ton of injuries, have only scored more than two goals in a game once in their last nine, are 4-4-1 in their last nine games and have been absurdly outplayed by the Blue Jackets, Capitals and Canadiens in the last week, three potential playoff opponents. This is certainly not a great time for the team to be slumping…
  • Alain Vigneault wasn’t too happy either after their latest loss. His call for a “reality check” was much needed. As someone who is not a huge fan of his, I give Vigneault credit for that. For other things, which I’ll get to in a bit, not so much.
  • The Rangers know they have to play a little bit tougher. Derek Stepan acknowledged it on Sunday.
  • I agree with that assessment full-heartedly, but then this happened…

More from Rangers News

  • The Rangers were able to make the call ups since the 23-man roster limit has passed along with the trade deadline. The team has already ruled out Michael Grabner for tonight’s game against the Lightning, and with him and Fast out, the team may opt to take a guy like Brandon Pirri who has not made a great contribution to the squad in some time out of the lineup.
  • Brandon and I will each have some words to add as the day goes on about the Tanner Glass situation, so stay tuned.

Other Thoughts

  • While Jesper Fast was playing out of his mind before he got hurt, the Rangers have another fourth liner playing really well of late; his name is Oscar Lindberg.
  • The former Coyotes draft pick has been great for the Rangers for the past couple of weeks. He has tallied two goals in his last five games and has created numerous offensive opportunities for him and his teammates over the past few weeks.
  • On a completely unrelated front, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported last week that the Rangers offer for Kevin Shattenkirk consisted of “a second-round pick and a B-C level prospect.”
  • Our own Brandon Cohen wrote about this important piece of information which we both agree is a favorable position for the team to take.

  • Gorton might not have believed that this team was a true Cup contender and didn’t want to part with assets. I think that is a correct assessment and it encourages me that he gets it. We will see what happens in the playoffs, but obviously, I hope he comes to Broadway in July.
