New call-ups

On Friday, it was announced that Kevin Shattenkirk has been injured and will be out indefinitely with a torn meniscus. He joins Marc Staal (day-to-day; lower-body injury), Kevin Hayes (day-to-day; lower-body injury), and Chris Kreider (IR; blood clot) on the list of injured Rangers. Since a number of players will be out for an unforeseen amount of time, a call-up was necessary.

Defenseman Tony DeAngelo was brought back up from the Hartford Wolf Pack and will make yet another attempt to prove himself in the NHL. Also recalled from the AHL was center Daniel Catenacci, who the Rangers acquired for defenseman Mat Bodie at the trade deadline last year.

DeAngelo has two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 29 games with Hartford. He also played in eight games with the New York earlier this season, registering just one point, an assist. The 22-year-old is still looking for his first NHL goal as a Ranger.

As for Catenacci, he is on a similar pace, with two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 23 games with the Wolf Pack. If/when he plays while he is up with the Rangers right now, he will be appearing in his first NHL game since March 19th, 2016, with the Buffalo Sabres. He has 11 NHL games under his belt so far but has been held pointless.

It will be interesting to see who of these two will play today, and where they will fit in.
