Chris Stewart

Over the last five seasons, Chris Stewart has played for five different teams, not even counting a second stint with the Minnesota Wild. In fact, he and Thomas Vanek are the poster children for trade deadline assets.

The difference between the two players, though, is that one is still a very effective player and scorer, and one is clearly not.

The latter is Stewart.

At 30 years old, he should be in the prime of his career. The reality is, his career in the NHL will likely be ending soon. The journeyman forward hasn’t tallied 25 points in a season since 2014-15 and has touched the 35 goal mark just twice in his career.

Stewart is a roster filler guy now. If you have injuries throughout your lineup, he’s a guy who you plug in your bottom six just to have a warm body on the bench.

Stewart will likely get an AHL contract somewhere this season if he decides to play another year of hockey. However, he’s certainly not worth a chance on an NHL contract anymore.
