Up: Chris Kreider

Chris Kreider is on a hot streak, meaning he may finally be on his way to his elusive breakout season.

Kreider is on fire. He is on a four game point scoring streak and has points in five of his last six games. Since November 6th, Kreider has five goals and four assists for nine points. On the season, he has 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in 20 games.

With the emergence of the rookies, Kreider’s performance has flown a bit under the radar. In fact, I didn’t even realize that Kreider was nearly a point per game player until recently.

Kreider finally breaking out is a great thing for the Rangers. For as long as he’s been in the league, Kreider has been a player of untapped potential. It seemed that every season was full of “He’s still developing! Next year he’ll break out!”, followed by another disappointing season, with the cycle repeating.

However, this year looks different. Kreider has been more consistent than he has in the past and his episodes of laziness have been few and far between.

Kreider’s improved play also means that if the Rangers choose to trade him, they can get a significant return. While I don’t believe it’s in the Rangers’ plans to trade him (and don’t necessarily believe he should be traded), it’s nice to know that the Rangers have options.
