The corporate crowd

Unfortunately, for the regular fan, much of the Rangers’ business model is oriented around the corporate audience. With a ticket within the first few rows of the bench going for $800 on a weeknight, there is a certain expectation as to who would be sitting there.

It’s a safe estimation to say that the Rangers’ organization is light on events because of its core base, the corporate audience, having little interest. For all of the allure of MSG, the simple fact is that the Rangers are a business that essentially prints money.

Other teams like the Oilers and Canadiens hosting their own skills competition should be a signal to the higher-ups within the Rangers’ organization. There is ample opportunity for the Rangers to garner some goodwill from its fan base.

Considering that the team appears to have an uphill climb back to postseason play, it would be nice if the average fan got thrown a bone once and a while.
