Fastest Skater

Arguably the most exciting event of the all-star skills competition is the fastest skater contest. In the event, a player is tasked with completing a lap within the hashes all the way around the ice. Come in too hot on an edge while trying to turn the corner and the player wipes out into the boards at more than 20 miles per hour.

In year’s past, this event could have been electrifying based on the type of team the Rangers had. A race between Chris Kreider and Carl Hagelin or Michael Grabner alone would have been worth the price of admission.

As of the moment, the Boston College product would be a clear cut favorite in the Rangers’ iteration of the event. Although Connor McDavid skates like Bo Jackson ran, I like to think that Kreider could give the Oiler captain a run for his money. Although Kreider probably would not win, I at least think he could make McDavid sweat out the final few strides.

As for another possible winner, Filip Chytil scored several end to end goals prior to the all-star break and would be a good candidate as anyone to at least push Kreider. Going into the event, number 20 would be a clear cut favorite.
