The price of style

Today, jerseys are sold with and without names and numbers. Depending on which store or online site you visit, the cheapest go anywhere from $150 to $170. They could be had for le$ if you don’t mind wearing something used or a poorly-crafted imitation made overseas. New sweaters without names and numbers usually sell for between $100 and $130.

If you’re looking for quality-made old-school jerseys (like my favorite Rangers one) you’re likely going to pay well-north of $150.

My jersey-buying days are over. Now, I’m outfitting my daughter, my family’s fourth generation of Rangers’ fandom. Thus far, she has a generic blue Lady Liberty and a replica home blue with former Blueshirts captain Ryan Callahan‘s name and number.

She wants her next jersey to be the same throwback as mine (yike$!). Youth replicas are less expensive than adult sweaters, but even those will set you back $60 (without names and numbers) to between $70 and $100 (with names and numbers).

I’m trying to convince my daughter to pick other Blueshirts jerseys that are just as spiffy — and within my budget. Hasn’t happened so far, but at least she hasn’t switched allegiance to another NHL team.

Anyway, it’s time to look at the other Rangers’ jerseys that are worth wearing, even if my daughter won’t.
