LW Will Cuylle

The New York Rangers drafted Will Cuylle with the 60th pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. They acquired the Vegas pick from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for former first-round pick, Lias Andersson. When looking at how Cuylle has performed since being drafted, it looks like this could be a move that benefits the Blueshirts. Keep in mind, Andersson had requested a trade that previous off-season.

Due to the OHL season being delayed and eventually cancelled, Cuylle was able to get into some AHL action. In 18 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, he scored two goals and recorded five points. However, what made the 19-year-old winger stand out was his immense physicality and refusal to back down from his older opponents. He also tacked on 35 penalty minutes.

With the Rangers looking to build a tougher identity, Cuylle should certainly be able to assist with that later down the road. They already brought in players like Ryan Reaves and Jarred Tinordi, but they likely will not be in the Rangers’ long-term plans. Thus, having an imposing figure like Cuylle in their system is a great thing. At 6’3″ and 203 pounds, he’s somebody who will be able to handle the physical side of the the NHL with ease.

He also may be able to build a better scoring touch in time, too. In 2019-20 with the Windsor Spitfires, he scored 22 goals and had 42 points in 62 games.
