Notes on the game

Alexandar Georgiev stopped 24 of 26 shots, and his teammates did a fabulous job of protecting him. The Blackhawks had 56 shot attempts, but 30 of them didn’t get through. He made some key saves late in the first period to keep the Rangers in the game until they could get going.

This was the first time the Rangers allowed two goals in a first period this season.

This was the fourth time the Rangers have won after trailing after one period with  a 4-4-1 record.  Those four wins are second most in the NHL behind St. Louis with five.

The Rangers have gone into the third period tied eight times this season and are 7-0-1.

Adam Fox had a spectacular game (what else is new?).  He led all skaters, playing 23:06 and finished with two assists to retake the league lead among defensemen.  His 22 assists are second in the NHL behind Connor McDavid with 27.  Defensively, Fox was amazing. He played 4:26 on the penalty kill and blocked five shots (if felt like more).

Artemi Panarin’s night in the record books lifted him into fifth place in the league with 30 points. He has five goals and 14 points in his last seven games.

Chris Kreider has not gone longer than two games without a goal and he kept it that way with his first game winning goal of the season (hard to believe), a third period power play goal.

With 17 goals he moved into a tied for third place with Auston Matthews.  His 10 power play goals is second, one behind Leon Draisaitl.

Riley Stillman attacked Jacob Trouba midway through the second period, retaliation for his big hit on Khaira.

He got a thrashed for his trouble, but inexplicably, there was no instigator penalty.  Trouba leads the team with three fighting majors.  No other player has more than one.

When Ryan Carpenter hit Dryden Hunt from behind as the game wound down, he was tackled by Ryan Strome.  The Ranger got a double minor for roughing and a 10 minutes misconduct.  Carpenter got boarding and roughing penalties.

The Rangers’ power play is becoming unstoppable as they scored twice in two tries. They are now at 24.3% and are eighth in the league.

The penalty kill was impeccable, stopping the Blackhawks all four times.  They have gone six games without allowing a power play goal and have killed 21 straight. They are now 10th in the league at 83.3%.

Ryan Reaves had his second two-assist game of the season.  Before this year he had never had two assists in a game.  He now has five points on the season, though he is still looking for his first goal.

This was only the third time this season that the Rangers have not allowed the opposition to get into double figures in shots on goal in all three periods.

This was the first time the Rangers have swept the season series from the Blackhawks since 2013-14.

Marc-Andre Fleury was thwarted in his quest to win his 500th game.  He made some excellent saves and kept Chicago in the game in the first two periods.

This is their longest winning streak since a nine-game streak in November 2015.

Their 17 wins are the most the team has ever had in their first 24 games of a season in franchise history.
