The losing streak is no more. The New York Rangers defeated the Boston Bruins (now 20-16-4) on Jan. 2, in what was the Blueshirts first game of 2025.
Mike Zibanejad, Brett Berard and Jonathan Quick ended up being named the three stars of the game, which was very much well earned.
Let's breakdown how the Rangers (now 17-19-1) snapped their four-game losing streak and got this latest win in an Original Six battle.
1. 1-0 in 2025
This win for the Rangers truly could not have come at a better time. Prior to the Thursday night win, the Blueshirts had sole possession of last place in the Metropolitan Division.
The well-earned win put the Rangers at 35 points, now tied for last place with fellow city-foe the New York Islanders.
2. Jonathan Quick Shines
With starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin out on injured reserve with an undisclosed upper-body injury, backup netminder Jonathan got the nod in the net against Boston.
And it paid off for the Rangers.
Quick faced 33 shots and tallied 32 saves (.970) with many impressive saves. He received multiple standing ovations from the crowd at Madison Square Garden.
The win marked Quick's 399th career win in the league, which is the currently the 15th most in NHL history.
3. Mika Zibanejad Hits 700 points
With the first goal of the night, Mika Zibanejad recorded his 700th career point. Zibanejad's goal was also the 301st of his career. The 31-year-old forward has 22 points in 37 games this season.
4. Brett Berard's First Goal at MSG
Rookie Brett Berard took it himself on a 2-on-1 rush and scored a beauty. He followed it up with an emotional celebration, sliding on one knee through the zone.
This was his fifth point as a Ranger and third career goal.
