Gabe Perreault expected to sign with Rangers

As a result of Boston College's season coming to an earlier-than-anticipated end in the NCAA Tournament's Manchester Regional, New York Rangers prospect Gabe Perreault is reportedly expected to sign on the dotted line at anytime.

The Manchester Regional on March 30th resulted in a 3-1 victory for No. 3-seed Denver against No. 1-seeded Boston College. And Rangers prospects Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue, who were key members of the BC roster, can now potentially turn their attention to solely focusing on their future with the New York Rangers.

For Perreault, this is apparently extremely likely. All across Monday there are plenty of reports that he is expected to sign with the Rangers as early as before the sun sets on Monday. He could even possibly join the Rangers for practice on Tuesday and be available for play on Wednesday.

However, his entry level contract will be a three year deal per the CBA, and the question isn’t about if he signs, it’s about when. But the “when” isn’t about a date, it’s about contract start date. If the Rangers sign him to play this season, they burn a full year of his ELC for less than 10 games (assuming the Rangers miss the playoffs) when all is said and done. Is it worth it?

However the cap ceiling is rising fast, and it’s highly unlikely Perreault goes from two-year pro to massive contract extension. And, it is official that Perreault has been in talks with the Rangers about signing his entry-level contract and he is expected to be in New York on Tuesday.

During Perreault's, an Illinois native, freshman year he was named a CCM/AHCA Second Team All-American, a Hockey East Second Team All-Star and a New England All-Star and finished second in Division I in assists (41) and tied for fourth in points (60).

After all, BC teammate and fellow sophomore Ryan Leonard signed his three-year entry-level deal with the Washington Capitals on Monday Afternoon. Who says Perrault's signing isn't to follow?
