The conclusion of Tuesday's morning skate for the New York Rangers saw budding young forward Matt Rempe receiving a round of stick taps from his teammates. Rempe was then sent to the center to lead the breakdown and earned cheers and head pats from his fellow Blueshirts.
The date was March 18th — with two other breaking news for the Rangers having already taken place that day; Rangers' prospect Noah Laba had officially signed his entry-level contract. He's got a new two-year deal with the Rangers beginning next year. Additionally the New York Rangers have announced that Arthur Kaliyev is out for the year and the postseason, should they make it, with an upper-body injury. The morning skate's actions regarding Rempe line up with what seems to be congratulating him on a contract extension.

Rempe is impossible to miss out on the ice. The forward stands 6-foot-9, weighs 255 pounds and definitely has a tough-guy persona when he’s out there due to his reputation for on-ice fights. He has two goals on the year so far in addition to three assists for a total of five points (+5).
"I’m a big guy who plays a physical game."Matt Rempe
Rempe was the first player in National Hockey League history to make his debut outdoors. The Rangers had him play in their Stadium Series game against the fellow-city foe the Islanders on Feb 18, 2024. For Rempe, his league debut was extra special. It was six-years to the day his father Ron passed while shoveling snow at the Rempe family home in Calgary.
WHL Seattle Thunderbirds' coach Matt O'Dette said during his time coaching Rempe, "Matt burst onto the scene and was an integral part of our team."
Rempe began his journey to the NHL as a lanky kid with some raw talent. As he’s dealt with some major setbacks, he’s committed to growing and making the changes he needed to make to find success. He began seriously training in the gym to bulk up a bit more, working on his on-ice skills this offseason and honing his ability to generate offense.
In fact, he's often the last Rangers player off the ice during practices.

Not sure exactly why, but there were some cheers and head pats. #NYR
Despite recent referee calls, Rempe's growth in his game has been undeniable as of late. A public announcement of a contract extension would not only make sense, but it would be deserved for the Ottawa, Canada native.
