How much will the average NY Rangers player make in 2024-25?

The NY Rangers are a premier team with quite a few highly paid players, but what will the average player on the Blueshirts make this season?

The NY Rangers have a good, experienced team, and therefore, they’re facing a substantial annual cap hit of $87,376,524 per Puck Pedia. With just $623,476 in projected cap space, we can assume that the Blueshirts will carry some of the biggest cap burdens in the NHL, and with that comes a rather large salary for the average NY Rangers player.

So, let’s conduct some simple math and figure out just how much the average player will bring in this season in terms of a cap hit. Overall, we’re taking $87,376,524 and dividing it by 23 players, which gives us $3,798,979 per player when rounded to the nearest dollar.

That’s quite the contrast from quite a few teams in the league, especially when you consider the average player for the Buffalo Sabres, for example, will bring in $3.615 million and that’s divided by 22 projected players as opposed to 23.

What gives the Rangers some of the biggest average cap hits in hockey for 2024-25? For one, they have a few seasoned veterans making either eight or close to eight figures, including Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba, and Mika Zibanejad.

For another, the Blueshirts are serious about contending for a Stanley Cup Championship, and the only way to get there is to build a team of sound players and keep them around. To do that, they have to pay them what they’re worth, and considering the Rangers snagged the Presidents’ Trophy last season, we can safely conclude that these highly-paid players fit the criteria.

Anyway, onto some fun facts: Panarin is the highest-paid Ranger for the 2024-25 season with a cap hit of $11,642,857, and last season, he especially proved he was worth every dollar. Moving on to the lowest-paid player, and we got Chad Ruhwedel, who clocks in at $775,000.

What’s interesting is that this Rangers team is so deep that even their lowest paid player in this veteran-laden group that also contains some intriguing youth is also an integral part thanks to his overall physical approach, which will come in handy come playoff time.
