The New York Rangers had an eventful offseason, even though they didn't have much cap space to work with. The team was able to sign defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to a seven-year, $49 million, while trading away long-time forward Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks, and former first-round pick K'Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Speaking of the Miller trade, they received a first round pick, a second round selection, and defenseman Scott Morrow. With this trade, the Rangers received draft compensation for a defenseman they had no intentions of re-signing. But with Morrow, they can give a shot to a former 2021 second round pick, beginning in training camp.
While speaking with reporters, Morrow revealed that he grew up a Philadelphia Flyers fan while growing up in Connecticut, due in part to his father being drafted by the team. when asked if his dad is on board with him being a Ranger, Morrow joked that there are "no more Flyers shirts around the house."

"My dad was drafted by the Flyers, so I grew up a Flyers fan,'' he said. "I'm excited to be on the Ranger side now. I'll say that.''
Dad's OK with you being a Ranger?
"Yeah. No more Flyer shirts around the house."
Newest Ranger Scott Morrow jokes his dad has abandoned Flyers loyalty
Morrow's father, Steve, was drafted in the 10th round of the 1987 NHL Draft, but never made it out of the minor leagues. Even so, the Morrow household was fully on board with the Flyers. But now that Morrow is part of the Rangers, the family fully on the Rangers train.
Morrow was drafted by the Hurricanes back in 2021 with the 40th overall pick. He made his debut in the 2023-24 season, playing just two games. Last season, Morrow played 14 games, scoring one goal and dishing out five assists with an average ice time of 15:48.
After the trade of Miller, the Rangers do have to figure out their defensive pairings. As of now, the Rangers have Adam Fox, Will Borgen, Braden Schneider, Carson Soucy, Urho Vaakanainen, and Gavrikov as the top options. But with training camp arriving, it gives fringe players a chance to make a statement to fight for a roster spot. For Morrow, he is probably the seventh defenseman entering camp. With strong performances in preseason games, he could squeak into the top six.
Morrow is a Ranger, and his former Flyers dad is all on board with the team as well.
