It was a good weekend for two of the New York Rangers prospects as they scored a total of seven goals over a combined four games. Individually they set career bests as both stood out with excellent performances.

Brody Lamb is the New York Rangers 2021 fourth round selection. Lamb is a 6'2", 175 pound forward playing for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

He can be used on either wing, and he just might be the best pure sniper that the Rangers have among their prospects. The knock-on Lamb has been consistency as there have been times when he just didn't shoot the puck enough.

If Lamb would shoot the puck more often then nights like Saturday night would be the norm. Saturday night Lamb recorded his first NCAA hat trick and even better it was a "natural" hat trick as his Golden Gophers spanked the St Thomas Tommies, 6-2.

Here is your first goal as Lamb follows a point shot in and puts the rebound into the open net. He was playing on the right wing on this power play.

This was a power play goal at 12:16 of the first period and it gave his Gophers a 2-1 lead. The second goal came on a two-man advantage at 6:43 of the second period as Lamb this time was on the left wing, and you have to love this laser of a shot as Lamb one-timed it for a 3-1 Gopher lead.

Less than two minutes later with the Gophers still on a power play, Lamb earns the natural hat trick with his third power play goal of the game.

This goal at 8:36 of the third period made it 4-1 Minnesota as Lamb had the go-ahead goal, the game-winning goal, and the insurance goal for his team. This was by far his best single performance of the three seasons that he has been with the Golden Gophers.

Toss in that Lamb also scored an even strength goal on Friday night and Lamb was 4-0-4 to improve his season totals to 5-3-8 after six games. His four power play goals already match what he scored all last season, with him currently being tied for the NCAA lead in power play goals.

Lamb is second in Minnesota in goals and fifth in overall scoring. His Golden Gophers were ranked fifth in the US in the latest college hockey poll. Up next for Lamb and his teammates will be a weekend set with Penn State at home as they open Big Ten Conference play.

Our second performer of the week is Nathan Aspinall of the Flint Firebirds as we did not know whether we were getting another Matt Rempe, given Aspinall being 6'5", 200 pounds or were a second Dylan Roobroeck (6'7", 205 pounds) who led all Rangers prospects in scoring and earned a Ranger's contract and is playing is playing for Hartford this season.

On Friday night, Aspinall had a career best 2-2-4 effort to not only earn the game's first star, but he was also the OHL's Fat Bastard Burrito Top Performer for the night.

Aspinall put on quite the show as players 6'5" are not supposed to be able to skate and pass like Aspinall does here as he takes the puck behind the net, does a "spin-a-rama" and gets the puck to the front of the next for a goal.

The goal was the first of the game, an even-strength marker which put the Firebirds up 1-0 against the Guelph Storm. In the Second period, Aspinall scored his first goal of the game when he had a rebound fall at his feet and all Aspinall had to do was poke it in to make it 2-0 for his team.

Exactly 3:23 later Aspinall earned a secondary assist on the Firebird's third goal which also was the game winning goal for the Firebirds. And Aspinall finished his night with his second goal of the game as just as his first goal, Aspinall found a loose puck in front of the Guelph Storm goalie and poked it past him for a 4-0 Firebirds lead.

That gave Aspinall a career best 2-2-4 night to improve his season totals to 5-6-11. On Saturday Aspinall added his third goal of the weekend and fifth point when he scored the third goal of a Firebirds 3-0 win over the Owen Sound Attack.

Aspinall improves to 6-6-12 which ties him with Raoul Boilard (2-10-12) for the prospect lead in points. Aspinall leads in goals, Brody Lamb leads in power play goals with four.

Though, what really stands out here is that this was done while the Rangers top prospects Gabe Perreault was idle and Noah Laba missed two games while injured. Stay tuned with Blue Line Station for more prospect updates.
