The Morning After…A New York Rangers Win

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, this is a different feeling in Rangerstown. The New York Rangers earned two points with their blanking of the rival Philadelphia Flyers, 2-0. The win put an end to a miserable three game losing streak, which included two games loss in a shootout and an embarrassing showing to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night. This was needed by everybody associated with the Rangers, whether you were part of the organization or a fan. It’s good to see the Blueshirts play better and give the home crowd something to cheer about. A couple of positives to take from last night, which will hopefully carry over to the next game, whenever that is.

Rick Nash Keeps on Trucking

It’s been said over and over, but this season is starting out positive for Rick Nash. Tonight, Nash scored his 13th goal of the season, putting him in second place for the league’s leader in goals. Currently, he is one behind Dallas Stars Tyler Seguin, who has 14. For the game, Nash’s stat line was one goal, three shots, two hits, one block shot while playing 17:11 minutes of ice time. If you are not eating crow about dismissing Nash from the team, you may want to start nibbling on it. He’s definitely showing why he is still amongst the league’s best forwards and prove that last year was not the Nash the team traded for two years ago.

Jesper Fast Starting to Come Into His Own

Even though he has been relegated to fourth line duties, Fast did what he could last night. Despite not registering a point, Fast still made his presence felt on the ice. with close to 10 minutes of ice time, Fast had two shots (both of which were good scoring chances) and one hit. Not impressed? Well, considering he was recalled over the likes of Ryan Malone and J.T. Miller from Hartford, I’d say he did pretty well. Head Alain Vigneault and his staff speak highly of him and described Fast as providing balance tot he fourth line. If he and Dominic Moore could get another quality winger for the left side, the potential to breakout is there.

  • A Little Bit of Normalcy in Goal

Well, finally, the Goal Buster showed up and notched his first win of the season. And not just any old win, a shutout win. Cam Talbot lived up to his nickname stopping all 31 shots from a Flyers team who were buzzing in the last few minutes of the game. After last night, Talbot’s record is 1-2-1 with a 2.70 goals against average and a save percentage of .908. With Henrik Lundqvist looking a bit shaky in his last outings, the Rangers will need strong performances from Talbot if they want to stay in the hunt. Much like last year, the two will need to be able to backup each other when things are at their darkest.

Role Reversal between the Rangers and Flyers

The Rangers looked liked the better team last night, which was obvious from the score. But it was the way they played. They were more responsible with the puck, passed well, and took advantage of scoring chances. Along with their ability to sustain the forecheck and keep the puck in their own end, it was what we had come to expect from the team. The Flyers looked liked the Rangers of the past couple of games. they looked uninterested last night. Not much effort was shown. If it were not for the play of Steve mason, who stopped 32 of 34, the game could have been a lot worse. With 13 giveaways and numerous defensive breakdowns, it is understandable for general manager Ron Hextall and head coach Greg Berube to be upset after the game. CSNPhilly.com reported that both men lit into their team behind closed doors after last night. Rangers fans know the feeling. With two points earned, the Rangers may play next on Friday in Buffalo, weather permitting. whichever game they play next, let’s hope this is an encouraging sign that the team will turn things around.
